HAMPSHIRE SQUASH & RACKETBALL NEWS - January 2006
ROSE BOWL SQUASH COURTS

to be

DEMOLISHED!

Just before Christmas, the coaching team and organisers of the Rose Bowl Squash Club were told their courts were to be demolished in January!

The Rose Bowl PLC had decided that replacing their Squash courts and gym with conference and banqueting facilities would be more of a money spinner, and that the three state of the art courts were to be demolished early in the new year. Despite the short notice the Squash Club were also informed that the decision was irreversible. The HSRA and the Squash community in Hampshire are now concentrating on ensuring that senior and junior teams are able to fulfil their fixtures, and exploring the possibilities of relocating the thriving junior Squash activities and possibly the senior teams at other clubs. In the meantime we ask that all clubs who have fixtures with Rose Bowl to be flexible and accomodating in making alternative arrangements.

Trojans come to the Rescue!

It is a reflection of the inter-club and County support within Hampshire Squash, that within an hour of putting out the details of the closure of the Rose Bowl Squash, Trojans Squash club came forward to offer any assistance they could to keep the juniors playing. Over the Christmas period the Trojans committee met with the Rose Bowl Junior Squash Chairman and an agreement was reached to move all juniors to the new venue. The Rose Bowl name will be retained for the Hampshire League junior teams but from January 7th the club will run under the Trojans name.
This is terrific news for the 40 plus juniors who have all agreed to move and integrate with the junior section at Trojans. The Rose Bowl Junior Squash Committee would like to extend thanks to Trojans for their prompt and generous offer which will see two great clubs join to form one major club in the area. This is good news for junior squash and with the new initiatives being planned at Trojans could not have happened at a better time. No juniors have been lost to squash which is paramount.
