Hampshire Squash Summer League Final 2019

Main Image
Congratulations to Salisbury United, a winning combination of players from Five Rivers and SD Fitness, who just edged out Chichester’s Cruel Dioxide (a figment of Tony Adams’ over-fertile imagination) 3-2 in a thrilling final. With both sides taking two strings relatively comfortably, the match was tipped in favour of Salisbury in the Ladies top string match when former world No.23 Sarah Spacey clawed her way back from 2-8 down to clinch a thrilling 15-13 victory in the deciding game against former England U19 Top 10 player Amy Jones. Hampshire SRA Chairman Paul Roux presented the Farooq Mirza trophy to the victorious Salisbury captain Julie Palmer. Many thanks to Nuffield Health Portsmouth for once again hosting the final. The strength of players turning out in this competition has increased significantly in the last couple of years. While it is good to see stronger players participating, we will look to introduce a second tier next season, perhaps comprising players from Division 2 and below only, in order to encourage more casual social players also if there is sufficient interest.
